   The Hundon Astro Pitch
  Update 17th August 2011

"Hundon Astro"

Run by the Hundon Sports Association

After 10 years of good use the astro carpet has worn to a point where it is necessary to replace the surface in order to maintain the quality of play for all users. Unfortunately this will mean the pitch being out of use for 2 weeks during September from Monday 12th to Friday 23rd whilst this work is completed.

Since the introduction of the electronic entry system there has been an increase in youngsters climbing over the fencing to gain access. We would appeal to parents whose children play out in the village to ensure that they do not climb the fences as they are not designed for this purpose and could easily buckle or collapse if climbed on or clothing may become snagged causing a fall. We are concerned that an accident will happen if this continues. We may feel the need to coat the tops of the gate and fences with anti climb paint as a deterrent. This paint is non harmful but makes a nasty gooey sticky mess of clothing and skin and is hard to remove. Basically anyone who is supposed to be inside the pitch will have an entry card and will have no need to be climbing in. Details of how to obtain memberships are below.

Clubs who wish to book sessions for the autumn/winter 2011/12 season should be aware that there are now only limited sessions left available and these are allocated on a first come basis.

For further information on pitch bookings of memberships please contact Stewart Alderman on 01440 786769 or 07725516265 or alternatively e mail at stewart.alderman@fsmail.net

Hundon Cricket Club News from Facebook 20th January 2012

Hundon Cricket Club had an encouraging AGM last week in the pub with new interest coming into the meeting to participate in the forthcoming season. We have two senior sides with the 2nd team open to any interested players (young & old with any ability) , please contact me. We will also have at least one junior side (U11's) and a few U15's for junior coaching and a number of matches, dates to be confirmed. Further details to follow but thanks to all who attended and more to follow.

Hundon Cricket Club News 1st October 2011

I keep banging on about this and you might be getting a little tired of hearing this particular scratched record, but we do have something to shout about! Why do we have so many competitive junior and senior teams playing cricket in our village? Because we have so much interest and a pro-active group of players and supporters who are prepared to make it happen. It's not all about winning, it's about involvement: participating in and supporting the club, and, of course, preserving interest within the village.

It isn't just cricket either, Hundon soccer has benefited for many years in exactly the same way, supporting far more teams than a village of our size could ever hope to achieve.

Maybe there are a few main 'movers and shakers' but it's the support and interest from others that is the sustainable factor for our cricket club, creating a membership of over 80 active junior & senior players. They may not all live in Hundon as it's not possible to sustain our teams from the village alone, but like the school, shop and pub, we have to attract others from outside. This healthy membership helps us to succeed - for example, our first team won both the cup and Division 2 championship - which is beneficial to the village in many ways.

So, we are in the enviable position of having a senior team in the 1st Division, our 2nd team in the 3rd Division and probably two junior sides, U11 & U13, for next year's season. Watch this space!

My thanks go out to all who have supported the club behind the scenes, but particularly to Jamie Letts our stalwart ground preparer, who works so hard during the closed season to prepare an excellent playing surface and to Chris Beaumont who keeps the finances on track and pays the fines and who, after many years, has reluctantly decided to hang up his cheque book. I'd also like to thank our junior coaches, Andy Harrison, Will Barthorpe, Nigel Packer & Mark Jolland, who provide the backbone to the club and I hope will do the same again next year.

We will have our AGM in January (date tbc) and this time round will definitely need to see some new blood. We used to have three officers positions filled, but now there is only me and that is not sustainable!

STOP PRESS

It has just been confirmed that our U11s have been crowned joint league winners of the Borders League after finishing joint top with Haverhill. A fabulous result and a great achievement by the team.

As in the past the fixtures will also appear monthly in the Herald from May onwards.

Hundon FC News 1st February 2012

With the recent weather not many matches have been played, but results have not been kind when we have had a fixture, with a 1- 0 loss at Cherry Hinton and 3 -1 loss at Wisbech, Injuries and generally players not making themselves available is hitting the club hard, there is still hope to sign players but we only have until the end of March to do this!!

The Reserves only have 7 matches left in their division and lie 7th at the time of writing, both teams need some points to ensure staying in their respective divisions.

Hundon FC News 19th January 2012

With both teams winning and losing matches not much has changed as far as league positions are concerned, and with the weather holding so far we are easily up to date with our fixtures!!

Dog fouling on and around the pitch remains an issue,

For forthcoming fixtures, (subject to change) Kick off as stated. - see the What's On section

Hundon FC News 24th October 2011

The First team have gained a couple of new signings as hoped, however 2 others departing has left us with similar issues, however team spirit is high, this was highlighted in the last two matches, latterly going down by the odd goal in seven to the tables top side, if they carry on playing as they are, they should be ok for the rest of the season, the Reserves have really picked up recently and moved up the table accordingly again they will rely on having players available as ever.

Upcoming fixtures.........2pm K/o
1st Team
3/12 No game at time of writing, 10/12 Home - Needingworth Utd, 17/12 Home - Cambridge City Res
Res Team
3/12 Home - Fulbourn 'A', 10/12 Away - Wilbraham, 17/12 Away - Linton Granta

Finally I would like to wish everyone a merry Xmas and happy new year

Mark

Hundon FC News 24th October 2011

Both teams have managed to secure some points over the last few weeks but need to build on some good league results, we hope to sign a couple more players in the next week or so, this should ease some of the problems for the respective managers in fielding a competitive side to maintain league positions and even move up the table!!

Forthcoming fixtures (Kick off 2pm unless stated)
1st Team
5/11 Home - Gt Paxton, 12/11 Home - Wisbech St Mary, 19/11 Away - Girton, 26/11 No game at time of writing
Reserves
5/11 Away - Comberton, 12/11 No Game, 19/11 Home - Orwell, 26/11 Home - Comberton

Hundon FC News 21st September 2011

Consistency of team selection has been a major issue for both squads due to various reasons including injuries, however players not making themselves available is also a hindrance, hopefully this will ease as the season progresses with more signings, the first team have had some excellent results including an away win at Soham Town Rangers and look to be holding their own in Senior 'A', the Reserves are struggling in 3 'A' their best result so far has been an away draw, but spirits remain high, they too need a settled side to help their cause!!

I would like to thank all those who helped with the Veterans match on September 11th, the total raised was £300 all money going to West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind!
West Wratting won the match and are already planning a re-match at their ground.

   Hundon Hawks

HUNDON HAWKS

August 2010
Hundon Hawks are currently looking for more players for their under 9s, under11s and under 12sge groups.
For the under 9s contact Rob Knight 01440 710933
For the under 11 contact Gavin Bell 01440 702365
For the under 12s contact Brian Holmes 01440 786857

Originally formed in 2004 as an under 12 team out from the remnants of Glemsford Gladiators under 11's, the Hundon Hawks have grown rapidly to the extent that season 2007/2008 will feature 6 teams at different age groups playing in the Cambridgeshire mini league and Cambs Colts Leagues.

Hawks best year ever in terms of results so far. Despite dropping back from 6 to 5 teams, the club is in great shape, the only big disappointment having been the weather which has disrupted the season and left a couple of the teams with too many matches to play between now and the end of the season.
In mini league football:- The under 9s under new management this year have struggled a bit and have not won any games however, there are definite signs of improvement as scores are getting closer. The under 10s have had a storming season and sit 2nd in their league however as at mid March they still have more than half of their games to play,

In 11-a-side football, the under 12s have been the surprise package. Having won less than a handful of games at mini league level, they have already won 5 this season and sit comfortably in mid table. This is a great effort from Terry Loosley's team especially as they only have a tiny squad of players (anybody know of any players available at that age group?)

The under 14s after a promising end to last season have probably slightly underperformed however they have won 5 and drawn 2 of their 15 games played so far and also sit comfortably mid table.
Tony Wheeler's under 16s go from strength to strength. Having seemingly missed out on promotion on goal difference last season, they started the season with 2 big wins only to have them wiped out as Cambs FA decided to restructure the league after a month of the season (imagine what Alex Ferguson would say if thai happened to Manchester United?).

Hawks then found themselves in the higher league anyway but have coped admirably and despite a very weather interrupted season (at one point only playing 3 games in 12 weeks) the team are 5th in their league but with the 2nd best "points dropped" record in the league. If they win all of their remaining games, they will win it, however they still have 11 games to play and 2 of those against top side Mildenhall. The under 16s also had a wonderful Cambs County Cup run defeating 2 sides from the league above before losing narrowly to top of divn A side Willingham (who are unbeaten in several years) 1-0 in the semi final.

If you want to support the Hundon Hawks, the under 9s and 10s play Saturday mornings around the Village Hall, the under 12s and 14s play Sundays at Motts Field in Haverhill and the under 16s at Clare.
