Message From The Chairman - January 2012

PARISH COUNCIL - LOOKING FORWARD TO 2012 (and reflecting on the past year)
I hope that you enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing Christmas.

As we enter the New Year it is useful to look back on what for us was generally an uneventful year. With the retirement of 3 experienced councillors at the April meeting we have been fortunate to have successors who have shown themselves to be enthusiastic and keen to involve themselves in the work of the Council. Apart from dealing with the usual items the most important issues were the publication of the Parish Plan and the acquisition of land for more affordable homes.
We have been fortunate in the appointment of the new vicar for the Stour Valley Benefice. Rev. Stuart Mitchell is keen for Hundon Church to become more involved with the community and I'm sure that those of us who value its importance in the community will want to give Stuart their support.

As for 2012 it will be a challenging time for us all. As far as your Parish Council is concerned those items on your wish-list that are within our control will continue to receive attention and I am pleased to report that one of my fellow councillors has, together with other volunteers, undertaken to clear waterways along the Lower Road to minimize the risk of future flooding. Such public-spiritedness is typical of so many in our community who freely give of their time to help their neighbours in various ways. And to show that volunteering has no age limits was demonstrated by 2 local schoolchildren who cleaned graffiti from the bus shelter!

The coming year sees the celebration of 2 important events, and important as the Olympics may be, the Diamond Jubilee is something of which our country should be proud and which should be an occasion for everybody to enjoy. Whilst your Parish Council is keen to support whatever festivities are arranged and can assist in financing celebrations, the organization of such is not within our remit. However I am confident that within our community there are those who will be prepared to give a little time to help to plan and organize events worthy of such an occasion.

Best Wishes for 2012

David Rowlinson, Chairman, Hundon Parish Counci

PARISH COUNCIL REPORT

To all members of the Hundon Community:

As August is the only month of the year when a Parish Council meeting is not held I have taken this opportunity to keep you informed of progress on various fronts.

Affordable Homes-Phase 3:

The Lower North Street site had to be abandoned because of problems relating to acquisition of land for access. However your Council requested a meeting with Iceni Homes who will be developing the scheme and the St. Edmundsbury Planners at which I expressed concern at the lack of progress on this important issue. An alternative site was proposed which the Planners are prepared to consider and preliminary discussions have taken place with the landowner.

Parish Plan:

I would like to thank everyone for the excellent response to the questionnaire- we had over 80% returned which Suffolk Acre, who promote such plans, reckon to be a record. It goes to show that you care about the future of Hundon and is a tribute to Jamie Letts and the members of the Steering Group for all the hard work that has gone in to the Plan. They are now in the process of analysing the results which will be summarised in a report. This will form the basis of the next phase- the consultation process- when once again we will be inviting you to have your say in the way your village develops to cater for the needs of our community.

Suffolk Village of the Year:

This is not a competition for the prettiest village but one judged also on various facets which together combine to measure how well the community is served. I'm pleased to report that we did reach the finals although we were beaten by Clare as you probably already know. However I'm pleased to say that the Judges were most impressed by the range of facilities in what is a comparatively small village and I'm sure we all appreciate the sterling work carried out by our many volunteers in serving their community.

Wishing you all well,

David Rowlinson-Chairman, Hundon Parish Council
